What’s the best vegan whipped cream? I tasted six of the top dairy free whipped cream and non dairy whipped topping brands on the market and there were four that made the cut.
Picture this: You finally found the best vegan ice cream, time for dessert! But wait, what about the dairy free whipped topping? Gasp! That whipped cream you’re holding is made with dairy! Enter me, a person who is paid to taste and rank foods for a living. I swat the whipped cream out of your hands and offer you the best vegan whipped cream—or non dairy whipped topping, depending on your preference. Then I fly away.
Okay, I walk briskly out the door after you scream at me to leave because it’s not okay that I “just barged in here” and you’re going to “call the police.”
As long as you promise not to press charges, I’m here to share the best-tasting non dairy whipped topping and vegan whipped cream you can buy. None of them taste exactly like fresh homemade whipped cream or even canned whipped cream made with dairy, but they do taste good. And they all belong on your vegan pies, cakes, ice creams, or mugs of hot chocolate.
Best for Dipping
Tru Whip Vegan Whipped ToppingInstacart“If I was vegan I would be psyched about that,” said Sporked managing editor Gwynedd Stuart about this giant tub of non dairy whipped topping. It’s not a dupe for fresh whipped cream, but it’s a fluffy, sweet cloud you can use for dipping strawberries or dolloping onto vegan cupcakes. It’s made with palm kernel oil, tapioca syrup, cane sugar, tapioca maltodextrin, and a few other proteins and gums and ingredients with lots of x’s and y’s in them. It tastes like cheap vanilla ice cream—the kind you get by the mega tub for kids’ birthday parties. Sometimes, that’s just what you want.

Best Almond Milk
Reddi Wip Almond Milk Whipped ToppingTargetIf you don’t like coconut, then stop right here. This is the best canned dairy free whipped cream for you. It doesn’t have a very strong almond flavor, but it is quite sweet and just a touch grainy on the end. But it’s creamy and satisfying, I think it’d be great on non dairy ice cream and as a topping for very dark hot chocolate.

Best Coconut Runner-Up
Reddi Wip Coconut Milk Whipped ToppingWalmartThis canned non dairy whipped cream comes in ahead of its almond milk brother because it has less graininess. It’s very creamy. It’s very sweet. And it’s not too coconutty at all. You won’t taste it and think “vacation.” That said, it does finish with a little bit of astringency on the end that you sometimes get from fake sweetener, even though it’s made with real sugar. Really, though, you’ll only be able to detect anything wrong if you eat it alone. Put it on a piece of pie and you’ll be happy as a clam that loves whipped cream.

Best of the Best
Sweet Rose Coconut Whipped ToppingAffiliateThis whipped topping from Trader Joe’s is undeniably coconutty, so if you don’t want to add a touch of tropicality to your dessert, it’s not for you. But if you do like coconut, you will love this light and airy canned non dairy whipped cream. It’s good on ice cream and hot cocoa, but it’s also good squirted right into your mouth. That’s about the highest praise I can give any canned whipped cream—especially vegan whipped cream.
