Welcome to Mythical Kitchen Picks, the series in which the culinary experts from Mythical Kitchen tell you all about their favorite foods and ingredients. Last week, Trevor Evarts shared his all-time favorite low-cal beverage. This week, Lily Cousins is letting you in on an essential freezer staple. Read on to find out how she keeps her late-night noodles tasting fresh without running to the produce aisle every day.

Lily’s Pick: Dorot Garden Crushed Ginger Cube Tray

If you find me in my kitchen at 2 a.m. rummaging through the fridge, I’m 100% making some sort of kitchen sink noodle (I LOVE NOODLES. I WANT TO BE A NOODLE. NOODLES ARE LYFE). But, OH NO! I really want some fresh ginger and garlic. Many Southeast Asian noodle dishes (Laksa, Pho, Goong Ob Woon Sen), use garlic and ginger as their key aromatics and it truly makes or breaks a dish.

What’s the problem, though? Well, if you think I have fresh ginger lying around like a psychopath, you’re wrong. If you think I have a sad knob of ginger molding in the back of my fridge that has grown so much bacteria, it’s taking a cozy nap under a shriveled spinach leaf living its best life? You’re absolutely right.

Well, lucky for me and YOU, Dorot Garden has a frozen ginger cube tray and I keep that lil’ baby stocked for whenever my 27-year-old tummy decides to act like an Iron Chef. So, be lazy like me and stop buying a giant root of ginger that you’re only going to use a knob of anyway and buy this thing. It’s great for making homemade ginger tea too! I also love sitting on the couch popping them into my mouth while I watch the latest season of Too Hot to Handle (just kidding, don’t do that). Anyway, my point is, start building your kitchen with non-perishable essentials (spices, FROZEN GINGER CUBE TRAY) and you might find yourself experimenting and cooking more than you ever have.
